We're in Overton, NV (Logandale, NV) at a friend's house – Nina Wolter- her husband Don passed away last month of cancer. They had planned on seeing all of us and she wanted to do what they had planned.
We arrived here on Sunday, March 5th, up from Quartzsite, AZ via one night at Chloride, AZ which is an old mining town and nearly a ghost town now. There are some homes for sale we went by one that was on the market for $105,000 – can you believe that?
Overton is a small community, one grocery store, one gas station, a post office, library, a couple RV parks and restaurants. Also, there is a huge house here on a side hill that used to belong to Wayne Newton ( the Las Vegas entertainer – Vegas is about100 miles from here, Our plan is to go into Vegas since we've never been there to gamble and little and see the sights. We may spend one night there in a hotel .
Yesterday we drove over to Mesquite, NV for lunch at the casino Oasis Resort – and lost a dollar in the slots. Next stop we went on to St. George, UT to look around and shop. The wind was blowing all day, but the sun was shining.
Next week we a probably move over to Lake Mead at a place named Stewart's Point which is right on the lake. While we're there we plan to visit Hoover Dam and tour it for a day. There are a couple springs out in the desert above the lake, one being Roger's Spring which we went saw earlier this week. Also, on the agenda is the Valley of Fire where the hills are a dark red. One thing we saw a was a camp area where there was one guy camping in a large pontoon boat, huge boat, on a trailer with 4 axels – it must be 25 feet long possibly 30 feet. Very interesting camps, another one was a Teepee.
